Biography
Carlos G Medina-Rivera was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. At the age of 18, he moved to Florida, US to pursue architecture. Carlos has always been passionate about anything involving design. He decided to be an architect at the age of 13 after designing a human-size Swiss house for an English Week competition at his middle school. Carlos is an aficionado of space and technology, and loves spending time with friends and family.
Education
In 2008, Carlos started attending at Valencia Community College where he earned his A.A. in Pre-Architecture. During his time in college, Carlos earned a spot on the President and Dean's List, and was elected treasurer of the American Institute of Architecture Students.
In 2013, he was accepted into the Master’s program of University of South Florida. He achieved multiple awards, and was elected Vice-President and then President of American Institute of Architecture Students. As President of AIAS, Carlos founded an art exhibition called 'Architecture On Every Way'; which exhibited art work from architecture students demonstrating their different design talents. The exhibition was presented at the school and AIA Tampa Bay Galleria. In 2015, he took part in a program at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London where his work was published. Additionally, his work has been featured in various publications over his career as a designer.
Experience
In 2017, Carlos started at Shumake Architecture, P.A. as an intern while finishing his graduate degree. Shumake Architecture, P.A. is an established architecture firm in Tampa, Florida managing small to medium scale projects. Under the firm Principal’s guidance, he is currently pursuing licensure as a registered architect. While working for the firm, Carlos has used his knowledge of the latest tools and technology in digital visualization, as well as fresh design concepts to assist the team on projects. The firm’s Principal has described Carlos’ work as “an immeasurable asset to the team.”
